What Your Exercise Mindset Should Always Be

IS YOUR EXERCISE MINDSET SUPPORTING OR SABOTAGING YOU?
In this article you’ll discover what your exercise mindset should always be, so you stay motivated even when the going gets tough. We all lose motivation from time to time and fall off the wagon. However, if you’re not managing your mindset effectively, you’ll find yourself not only falling off the wagon but constantly struggling to get back on. Is this you? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Read on for my top tips that help me maintain a highly effective exercise mindset so I have the motivation to keep moving, every day.

GOAL-ORIENTED
Your exercise mindset should always be goal-oriented. Do you have a clear vision of what you want to achieve from exercise? Or are you meandering along aimlessly? Without a clear goal in mind, how do you expect to achieve anything? Working towards something keeps you motivated. Plus, when you see progress, you begin building a snowball of motivation. The first step is to create a goal or a few goals you will achieve from your exercise program. Most people set themselves up for failure by going too big and setting unrealistic time frames to achieve their BIG goals. Instead, set yourself up for success. Create small goals that feel achievable to you. If it feels too big, it is. You must believe, beyond doubt that you can achieve your goals. Write them down and read them every day. By writing them down, you anchor your goals into the physical plane. So put pen to paper and set those achievable goals now.

INTENTION
An effective exercise mindset is imbued with intention. Put simply, you know what you will achieve from the exercise session. You’ve stated it clearly to yourself and you show up on purpose.
Powerful intentions optimise physical performance and boost results. Most people aren’t even aware of the mindset they bring to an exercise class or session. So, before you start moving, ask yourself, “What do I intend from this training session?” Do you intend to get it over and done with as quickly as possible? Or do you intend to generate the most powerful, transformative session possible? Either way, whatever you intend will be driving the physical action and thus determine the outcome.
Put the power of intention into practice today and see what happens.

GRATEFUL
Your exercise mindset should always be grateful. How you perceive exercise will determine how you feel about it. Take a moment to think about that. Do you perceive exercise as a chore and a bore? Or do you see it as a gift? Gratitude puts everything back in perspective. When you think about exercise are you grateful that you can move and do something that’s good for your physical and mental health?
Leading-edge research proves the powerful interplay that exists between mental, emotional and physical bodies. Imagine how positively your physical body responds when you exercise with an attitude of gratitude. When you’re happy to be there, the entire exercise experience elevates. Plus, when you’re grateful, you flood your system with feel-good hormones that tone your nervous system and positively influence your health.

Embodying gratitude can take some practice. Try starting every day with an attitude of gratitude. Every morning on waking, remind yourself of three things you’re grateful for. It works wonders and sets you up for a positive feel-good day.
World-renowned mindset coach Tony Robbins reiterates; “the power of gratitude is that it is an emotion- and you can manage your emotions by choosing what to focus on“. He discusses the power of gratitude in more detail in this article.
